Archetype Overview: Soldiers
Today we're looking at the Soldier class, the versatile core of your squad
Soldiers aren't the fastest units in your arm, that's usually the Skirmishers, they aren't the toughest, that's usually your ECR troops, and they aren't often the most powerful, which is generally the Exotic Weapons job. What they are is sitting just at the intersection between those three, providing a balanced unit that can fulfill multiple rolls
Let's take a closer look
First on the left is R.U.R.'s R-66 Pirate Suppression. A venerable and battle tested pattern that has long served the République, keeping their imports and exports safe. The 66 leans more towards the speed edge of the triangle, as it's built in guns are low calibre, same with it's micro missiles. However, it can use that speed, along with it's bulk, in a powerful ramming attack
The Beringrex is a bit more close quarters than the other soldiers, as while they are intelligent enough to be trained with basic firearms, their aim isn't the best, even with the rifles being modified to fit their ungainly hands. Still, their bodies are powerful enough to go toe to toe with a heavy exo-frame and their thermal vests (which have to counteract the cold blooded nature that was accidentally introduced into their bioplan) can deliver doses of stimulants to make them even more fearsome than they are normally.
The Steel Legion Rapid Response Teams are a bit of an oddity among the augmented freaks of the setting. While they do use a light, armoured exo-frame, their effectiveness comes mostly from a level of professional training and drills that is uncommon at the start of this conflict. Each and every member is used to working in a constantly hostile environment, either on search and rescue missions through the asteroid field, or through pirate ship/station boarding actions. Their kit is basic but effective. A short bullpup style rifle, a cutting torch that can double as a melee weapon, medical supplies, and a light armoured sealed environment suit that lets them transition from station to vacuum instantly. Their experience often leads to them taking defacto or secondary leadership positions on squads, even with an Overseer present.
