Finishing off the Monster Makers: A creature that begs for death!

Well, finally here, the Beringrex, Frontline soldier of the Monster Makers

A war needs soldiers, that’s a fact. You can wage an effective guerrilla campaign with spies, saboteurs, and insurgents, but you can’t plan for everything and eventually your people are going to get caught on open ground. That’s when you need a massive slab of meat that can carry a gun around, the Monster Makers may have taken that too literally though. The Beringrex is undoubtedly a terrifying foe, maybe the worst thing in the entire system to face down one on one, but the very strengths that make it so have also insured that the Fraternity can never field a full force of them.

The brutally powerful body that can go toe to toe with a heavy exo-frame is countered by issues in the genetic mix that haven’t been fixed yet, and an insatiable need for food. A beast actually intelligent enough to use (rudimentary) firearms is countered by the time and resources needed to actually train it in the operation. At every turn their hopes for a unstoppable and utterly loyal army are thwarted by design flaws and logistics. A very lucky thing for the rest of the system.

Appearance: A Beringrex stands roughly 7 ft tall, though this doesn’t take into account their always slumped poster which has already been artificially straightened to better hold weapons. While at a distance it might be mistaken for a particularly large Mountain Gorilla, getting close will quickly disabuse anyone of that notion. Sleek black fur is missing in patches where rough, yellowish-green scales have surfaced. A large tail has burst from the back, quite unpleasantly, to help balance the beast as it walks upright. Overlong teeth spill past the gums in a permanent snarl, and quite often a single eye is slitted and yellow. Twisted horns bursting from the skull both make a lethal shot to the head far from likely, and let it headbutt through residential walls.

Unlike most of their other creations, the Beringrex is actually fielded with manufactured gear (beyond its gun). Most think the high tech vest it wears is some form of armour, as if the beast needed defending, and it does somewhat do that, it’s just not the main function. Instead, it is theorized that during the splicing, some errors were introduced that weren’t caught until later, errors that passed over the reptile trait of cold bloodedness, a distinct disadvantage for a frontline troop. Given that they went through the trouble of designing an armoured vest to serve as a portable heating unit and container for several stimulants intended to provide bursts of speed, it can be surmised they haven’t found a way to correct the defect without causing some other, presumably more sever, issues.
